Indonesia (ASIA 190)
Learn about Indonesia — a rising Southeast Asian economic powerhouse — while exploring its rich history and geography, as well as contemporary social, political, economic, and environmental issues. With 17,000 islands connecting the Indian Ocean, South China Sea, and Pacific Ocean and its vast reserves of oil, natural gas, gold, nickel, coal, and other resources, Indonesia is an increasingly strategic archipelago. The class will engage Indonesia as it preserves rich and diverse traditions in the face of modernity.
