“The Women of Influence awards have been around for 13 years even conducting one of the awards ceremonies online during the pandemic,” says Dr. Nadine A. Kelley, Senior Director for University Housing Services. “This event has grown from the small conference room in housing, then to the Redwood Room in the Union, to an event that has well over 200 RSVPs. It is an event that is either held in March or early April and it is intended to honor all the work that is done by the Women of Sac State. Nominations alone mean a great deal and the awardees are those that have risen to the top of the outstanding people who have been nominated.”

At the recent annual ceremony, CCE’s own Dr. Anna Keck, Director (Interim), Academic and Professional Programs, was honored with the award.

“Receiving this recognition is incredibly humbling, and fills me with gratitude for the women and allies before me who fought for greater equity for all gender identities, helping to make it possible for women to receive this kind of award.,” Keck says. “I see this as a call to action: to renew my commitment to positively impact systems and individuals whenever and wherever possible – from advocating for large-scale changes that meet the needs of diverse learner populations, to cultivating an inclusive and supportive work environment for my team by devoting time to connect with each member and working to support them as a whole person.”

Keck was nominated for the award by her colleague, Program Management Specialist Michelle Steen. In her nomination Steen explained why Anna Keck was deserving of the award. “She advocates for us as staff while challenging us to learn and use our strengths. Since CCE has undergone recent leadership changes, she has ensured we can continue to perform our jobs at a high level while encouraging our college to embrace change and work together,” wrote Steen. “She has also helped to create a warm, supportive work culture that is evidenced by the longevity of many staff and the positive relationships she has across the University with faculty, staff, and administrators. Because she models these qualities, she has motivated myself and my colleagues to invest in our work and our unit. I find a lot of satisfaction and purpose in my work because of Dr. Keck’s support and belief in me. I hope to be the same kind of leader.”

Nominees for the award must meet the following criteria:

  • Awarded to a current Sacramento State staff member or administrator whose presence and contributions have fostered the personal, and academic growth of students, faculty, staff, and/or departments.
  • Individuals nominated for this award work to create spaces and professional networks at Sac State that promote collegiality, equity, and inclusion.
  • Serves as a personal and/or professional role model and resource, and whose professional accomplishments, leadership, and service have had a significant impact on our university and campus community.

“Anna exemplifies the leadership characteristics that are recognized as part of this award,” adds Ben Fell, Associate Dean (Interim), Academic and Professional Programs. “Each and every day she influences our team to always focus on our learners’ experiences and how our work supports their journeys toward success. This award is so well-deserved – congratulations, Anna!”
