The Unsung Heroes of CCE
Celebrating the Facilities Team at Sac State’s College of Continuing Education
At Sacramento State’s College of Continuing Education (CCE), learning happens in classrooms, meeting spaces, and event venues throughout the year — day, night, and even on Saturdays. But behind the seamless execution of every class, training, and gathering is a team of dedicated professionals whose work often goes unnoticed, yet is absolutely essential: the Facilities Team.
From meticulous scheduling and setup to technical troubleshooting and after-hours support, the Facilities Team ensures the CCE environment is welcoming, safe, and fully operational. Their behind-the-scenes efforts allow students, instructors, and staff to focus entirely on what they’re there to do—learn, teach, and connect.
Coordinated Excellence
Cherish Breece-Page, Scheduling Liaison, plays a key role in the engine that keeps CCE running smoothly. She manages classroom and event reservations in Napa Hall and the Willow Suites in Modoc Hall through the Event Management System (EMS), while also accommodating last-minute needs through Outlook. “I assist with scheduling hourly staff and student assistants to ensure support coverage for day, evening, and Saturday classes,” she explains.
Cherish brings over a decade of experience and empathy to her work. “My background and 12+ years working and learning at The College of Continuing Education help me understand the needs of staff, students, and instructors. I try to be that dependable point of contact and approach tasks with a proactive mindset.”
She is also quick to highlight the strength and inspiration she draws from her team. “It’s a group of dedicated, collaborative individuals who consistently go above and beyond. Our greatest strength is teamwork.”
Technical Brilliance with a Personal Touch
Derek Chen, Facilities Support Services Representative, recently completed a degree in computer engineering. He applies that technical knowledge to support classroom and event readiness, particularly in audio-visual setup and equipment maintenance.
“My work fosters an environment where learning and engagement can thrive,” Derek shares. “Whether we’re preparing for executive training, a community workshop, or an academic course, we ensure that each space is fully functional, welcoming, and ready for use.”
He praises the leadership of Margaret Reece, Director of Operational Effectiveness & Efficiency, as well as the supportive spirit of his colleagues. “Cherish, Oscar, and Gar all show patience, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence. Margaret is one of the most effective supervisors I’ve had—her encouragement and leadership create a positive team culture.”
Leading with Support and Strategy
Margaret Reece is deeply proud of the Facilities Team and the vital role they play at CCE. “I’m consistently inspired by our Facility Team members. Their ability to remain calm under pressure and find creative solutions sets a great example,” she says.
She describes their work as foundational to everything that happens at the College. “Whether it’s maintaining operational spaces, scheduling classes and trainings, ensuring after-hours support, or responding quickly to urgent needs, their behind-the-scenes work directly supports the success of students, instructors, and staff.”
For Margaret, the team’s true strength lies in its collaboration and shared sense of purpose. “Each team member brings unique strengths—technical knowledge, institutional experience, or interpersonal skills—that contribute to collective effectiveness. I am so grateful for this team!”
Making a Daily Impact
From setting up learning spaces and maintaining equipment to fielding scheduling changes and providing tech support, the Facilities Team operates with a level of care and precision that is nothing short of inspiring. Their adaptability, communication, and commitment to service elevate the day-to-day operations of CCE, allowing others to thrive.
As Cherish puts it, “Our work often happens behind the scenes, but it directly impacts the experience of students, staff, faculty, and guests.”
And that’s exactly why they deserve our recognition—not just for the work they do, but for the heart, collaboration, and excellence with which they do it.
