Sacramento State Faculty Senate Awards CSAD2B Professor for Outstanding Teaching
On Thursday, Feb. 27, Laura Gaeta, Ph.D., was one of several faculty members recognized during the 2024-25 Outstanding Faculty Awards for Teaching by the Sacramento State Faculty Senate.
Dr. Gaeta is an associate professor from the Second Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSAD2B) program offered by the College of Continuing Education (CCE) in partnership with the Department of Communication Science & Disorders in the College of Health & Human Services.
The award recognizes outstanding teachers for their effectiveness, innovation, and impact on students.
“The Outstanding Faculty Awards ceremony was both humbling and uplifting, especially as I was surrounded by students and colleagues whose support and kind words reminded me why I enjoy teaching,” Dr. Gaeta says.
Sacramento State’s Faculty Senate notes that Dr. Gaeta:
“Portrays a philosophy rooted in creating an inclusive, engaging, and student-centered learning environment that prepares students for clinical practice. Her teaching involves several active learning techniques, including the use of a flipped classroom approach, problem-based learning, and gamification to empower students to take ownership of their education, collaborate with peers, and apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios. She recognizes diversity in students’ strengths and learning styles and creates purposeful assessments that reflect diverse perspectives. Through advising, Dr. Gaeta provides personalized guidance and mentorship to promote success.”
This isn’t Dr. Gaeta’s first time receiving this award. She previously received the Outstanding Teaching Award during the 2022-23 school year.
“I am constantly impressed by the CSAD2B students’ drive and commitment to their education and career transitions,” Dr. Gaeta says. “Many of our students in this program bring diverse life experiences, entering the classroom with a sense of purpose. Their motivation to pursue further education and make a difference in their future professions as audiologists or speech-language pathologists inspires me to support them in reaching their goals.”
