The Frontline of Student Support

Edward C. Ortiz, a Customer Support Representative on the Enrollment Team, serves as the first point of contact for students and the community, whether in person or over the phone. His daily responsibilities include assisting with inquiries, resolving payment and registration issues, and offering general support to ensure a smooth enrollment process.

“I am inspired daily by our team members who handle a multitude of issues, ranging from payment concerns to registration challenges, and everything in between,” says Ortiz. “Their dedication and problem-solving skills motivate me to provide the best service possible.”

Ortiz’s personal journey as a non-traditional student has shaped his approach to supporting others. Having experienced challenges firsthand, he is uniquely positioned to empathize with students and help them navigate obstacles. His experience highlights the Enrollment Team’s role in eliminating barriers and making education accessible to all.

Problem-Solvers and Student Advocates

Lisa Collins, another dedicated member of the Enrollment Team, describes her role as being akin to a detective. 

“I have to take the clues from the questions being asked of me to formulate the correct answer or course of action to help the student obtain their desired outcome,” she explains. “Each call is a puzzle piece.”

Collins emphasizes the team’s collective ability to research solutions and develop programs that support students’ evolving needs. “We go out of our way to help them in any way we can,” she adds. “We research possibilities, search for solutions, and do whatever it takes to aid in their success.”

Enrollment coordinator Cydney Hampton explained why her educational journey enables her to better students’ needs. 

“Having experienced the challenges of being a college student seeking support myself, I am truly enthusiastic about the opportunity to extend the same assistance to new students who may be facing similar challenges,” says Hampton. 

A Culture of Teamwork and Excellence

The strength of the Enrollment Team lies in its collaborative spirit. As enrollment coordinator Alan Leon notes, “While being so new on the team, everyone inspires me.” He highlights the expertise of his colleagues, from Collins’s deep institutional knowledge to Joni Valentin’s mastery of web-based applications and Mog Lunt’s situational awareness and preventative maintenance.

Leon also acknowledges the leadership that guides the team. “The strengths of the team are uniformity and efficiency, brought on by the vision of (Associate Director, Enrollment and Marketing) Tammy Champion. Being cross-trained means that any one of us should be able to assist with any CCE registration-related issue.”

Lunt, an Enrollment Coordinator, echoes the importance of teamwork. “We work closely together to ensure smooth enrollment processes, supporting one another in resolving issues and improving efficiency,” she says. “Our ability to adapt to changing policies, technology, and student needs ensures that we contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.”
