Overview
Upon completion of the Nonprofit Administration certificate program, students gain the skills necessary to successfully manage sustainable operations in the nonprofit sector. Learners with all levels of nonprofit experience will enhance their knowledge by learning key management and leadership skills, expanding their professional networks, and developing expertise aligned with their current or desired role in a nonprofit organization. An equity-informed lens will ensure that diversity, inclusion, and access are central to expanding the learner’s knowledge of the nonprofit sector.

This certificate program is open to the public. It is intended for students seeking to upgrade their knowledge and skills in the nonprofit field.
Format
The program consists of four fully online courses, totaling 65 hours of instruction required for a certificate of participation. Certificates and Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) are awarded to those who successfully complete the requirements of all four courses.
Prerequisites
This program is delivered entirely online. Students must have basic computer skills, a working email address and access to a computer with internet.

This certificate consists of four courses designed to be taken in the order listed.
Nonprofit Organizations, Management, and Governance (NPM 101)
1.5 CEUs | An introduction to key concepts in the nonprofit sector.
- Develop an understanding of the history and background related to nonprofits locally and nationally.
- Explore structures and governance that form nonprofits.
- Explore collaborative ecosystems in the field while understanding how diversity, equity, inclusion, and access are part of the underlying fabric of nonprofits.
Fund Development for Nonprofit Organizations (NPM 102)
1.5 CEUs | Learn the key skills and tools needed to help grow the nonprofit through fund development and grant writing.
- Learn how to build relationships and make connections within the community.
- Learn additional tools needed around the nonprofit sector such as (501(c)(3) status, campaigns, and cultivating major donors.
- Learn development through the lens of diversity, equity, inclusion, and access throughout this course.
Program Development and Service Delivery (NPM 103)
2.0 CEUs | Learn about the services and programs nonprofits provide to achieve their mission and engage their community.
- Learn the tools nonprofits must use to successfully plan, implement and evaluate programs and projects.
- Learn ways to ensure equity, diversity, inclusion, and access are not overlooked when providing programs and services.
- Learn about special populations and how to best address community concerns and issues.
Resource Management – Employees and Volunteer Management (NPM 104)
1.5 CEUs | Learn key leadership skills and principles to help recruit, motivate, and engage the staff and volunteers of the organization.
- Learn the tools and strategies needed to manage conflict with paid staff or unpaid staff.
- Explore the key role diversity, equity, inclusion, and access play in staff and volunteer management.

Sacramento State alumni may apply for a 15% discount. To receive discount, participants must provide proof of graduation at time of registration.
How to Enroll
Basic Requirements
Students are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Participants must have basic computer skills, a working email address and access to a computer with internet.
If you live outside of California, see if Sacramento State has secured authorization or exemption to enroll students from your state in its online programs.

Is there an application required for this program?
No. Once registration is open, students will be able to follow the instructions and link provided to complete your enrollment.
Do I need to be enrolled at Sacramento State to participate in this certificate program?
No. The program is open to the public, and students do not need to be an admitted Sacramento State student to enroll.
Do I need to pay for the whole program up front?
No. Students may pay per course Please note that payment is due at the time of registration. Your spot in subsequent courses of the program will be secured, even if you are paying on a per-course basis.
When do the classes meet?
All courses are offered fully online and asynchronously. There will not be any virtual or in-person meetings required for any of the courses.
